Lahore: Administrator Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) Captain (R) Saif Anjum on Monday (May 4) provided his approval to the amendments proposed to the authority’s Building Bylaws 2017 — with the move aimed at promoting construction activity in the city, a news source reported.

The amendments have been crafted to help the construction industry benefit from the relief package announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan in April. As per the news sources, the MCL has made the following changes in the Building Bylaws 2017:
Height limit set for high-rise, mixed used developments:
- The minimum height limit of a multi-story building increased from 38 feet, to 45 feet
- NOC issuance was made compulsory for structure, design and architectural calculations of an apartment project
- Maximum height limit for apartment buildings spanning an area between 10 marlas and 1 kanal was set at 48 feet
- Maximum height limit for apartment buildings spanning an area between 1 kanal and 2 kanals was set at 90 feet

- Maximum height limit for apartment buildings spanning an area between 2 kanals and 4 kanals was set at 120 feet
- Maximum height limit for apartment buildings spanning an area between 4 kanals and 8 kanals was set at 200 feet
- Maximum height limit for apartment buildings spanning an area over 8 kanals in size was set at 300 feet
Height limit set for high-rise commercial buildings:
- Maximum height limit for commercial buildings covering an area between 10 marlas and 1 kanal was set at 50 feet
- Maximum height limit for commercial buildings covering an area between 1 kanal and 2 kanals was set at 90 feet
- Maximum height limit for commercial buildings covering an area between 2 kanals and 4 kanals was set at 120 feet

- Maximum height limit for commercial buildings covering an area between 4 kanals and 8 kanals was set at 200 feet
- Maximum height limit for commercial buildings covering an area over 8 kanals in size was set at 300 feet
Rules finalised for marquees
The MCL also approved of the requirement to have a minimum of 4 kanals of land for setting up a marquee. Owners of existing marquees with missing parking facility can get their buildings regularised by paying a penalty of PKR 350,000 per car. In addition, according to the building plan timeframe that has already been approved by the Lahore Development Authority, the MCL is now bound to grant approvals to building plans within 30 days of receiving a formal request — with all other formalities to be duly complied with during this time period.
