Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has yet to receive development funds from the government to carry out the renovation and beautification of the federal capital, a news source reported. The civic body has not made much progress on its 100-day plan, which was prepared on the orders of the prime minister.
MCI had devised a plan to renovate 50 parks, launch a beautification drive, landscape roundabouts and carpet roads in all the sectors in the capital. It was to clean all 15 nullahs, place waste containers in markets, fix streetlights and landscape Kashmir Highway, Faisal Avenue, Jinnah Avenue, D-Chowk, and the I-8 and I-9 interchanges.
Prior to the formation of MCI, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) had the mandate to carry out the aforementioned civic functions. But after 2016, they were placed under MCI’s administrative control.
CDA had already sought the government’s approval pertaining to the formation of a 15-member commission in its bid to revise Islamabad’s master plan for the first time in nearly 58 years. If approved, the 15-member body will include experts such as town planners, architects, environmentalists and civil engineers.
