Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) conducted a survey of 752 kilometres of sewerage network in the federal capital to understand the level of contamination in these streams and open drains, according to a news report. The survey has been carried out to reduce and minimise the contamination level in of these water channels.
At the moment, the sewerage system consists of 752 kilometres in the federal capital and according to the survey, there are various illegal connections to this network which are contaminating it. The officials have warned that those disposing off contaminated fluids will be issued notices and fines.
According to the officials, funds amounting to PKR 600 million have been allocated under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) scheme for rehabilitation and upgradation of sewerage network. For this, a proposal has been prepared and submitted to the Ministry of Interior for approval.
