Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation of Islamabad (MCI) has decided to launch a crackdown against illegal water connections in the city as a measure for reducing water shortage, stated a news report. This statement has come from the Mayor Islamabad Sheikh Anser Aziz who presided over the MCI meeting held at Pak-China Friendship Centre.
The Chief Metropolitan Officer (CMO) Syed Najaf Iqbal admitted that the city has various illegal water connections and said that 47% of the total water supply doesn’t even meet residents because of water leakage and theft. He also asked that the old water lines be repaired.
Aziz informed that the water level in Simly Dam has increased substantially because of rains and that water supply from Simly Dam has been increased to 30 Millions of Gallons per Day (MGD) to 24 MGD. He also informed of his plans of asking the government for funds so all activities can be carried out smoothly.
