Islamabad: The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has issued the notification for increase in water charges and property taxes, a news source reported. In a separate notification, Mayor Sheikh Anser Azizi has been given power equivalent to that of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) chairman, while the Chief Metropolitan Officer has been given powers equivalent to those of CDA board members.
The notifications were issued after their approval by the MCI house, which is equivalent to CDA board. The new rates have been notified after 18 years and have been increased significantly. They will take affect from the next financial year starting July 1, 2019.
For new commercial connections, the property owners will have to pay PKR 13,500 for half an inch and PRK 16,500 for 1/1 inch connections. Meanwhile, PKR 25,800 will have to be paid for 1 dia, PKR 54,000 for 1.5 dia, and PKR 109,500 for 2 dia commercial connections.
The amount has been fixed at PKR 6,900 for a residential 1/1 connection. Residential houses with less than 250 square yards of covered area will pay PKR 192 per month for water; houses sized between 251 square yards and 499 square yards will PKR 225 per month; finally, PKR 260 and PKR 376 will be charged from houses with covered area falling between 500 square yards to 999 square yards and 1,000 square yards to 1,999 square yards respectively.
In Sectors E and F, for plots sized up to 100 square feet, 101-200 square feet, 201 to 250 square feet and 250 square feet or above, the MCI will charge PKR 8, PKR 10, PKR 12 and PKR 15 per square foot respectively as property tax.
Owners of plots up to 100 square feet will be charged PRK 6 per square foot of covered area in G sectors, and PKR 8 for 101 to 200 square feet. The rates are the same in I sectors. PKR 6 per square foot will also be charged for properties in other areas not mentioned in the notifications.
Properties in Blue Area will pay PKR 18 per square foot of covered area for the ground floor, and PKR 12 for areas other than the ground floor.
Owners of properties on the ground floor or in the sector marakaz are to be charged PKR 16.5 per square foot of covered area and PKR 11 for property in areas other than the ground floor. Industrial and institutional properties will be charged PKR 9 per square foot of covered area.
Meanwhile, the flats will be charged in accordance with the rates fixed for the relevant areas.
