Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani announced the decision on December 23 (Wednesday). He further stated that property tax would be applicable in all areas – including sectors, societies, villages and model villages – of Islamabad.
The high court, while prohibiting the Capital Development Authority (CDA) from collecting property tax in the capital city, maintained that it was the sole prerogative of MCI under the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Local Government Act 2015.

Moreover, it directed the MCI to invite inputs from the general public and formulate tax proposals by next year’s June. ‘The MCI after promulgation of the notice of the property tax shall provide utility services within the union councils, which include water, gas, electricity, roads and sanitation, after preparation of different schemes,’ according to the judgment.
