Karachi: Mayor Wasim Akhtar has constituted a committee comprising officers of Karachi Municipal Corporation’s (KMC) Estate, and Anti-Encroachments departments and focal persons of the association concerned to conduct a survey of Lea Market and its adjoining areas, a news source reported. He issued the directives during his meeting with a delegation of All Karachi Tajir Ittehad led by its chairman Atique Mir.
The delegation said that they would cooperate with the city administration in the ongoing anti-encroachment drive and vacate their shops voluntarily, provided a complete survey of the area be conducted by the authorities concerned.
On his part, Akhtar said the district administration had arranged 1,455 alternative shops for the displaced traders in KMC markets and that the shops would be handed over to the affectees through balloting.
He added that the Supreme Court had strictly barred traders from carrying out any business or commercial activity on footpaths, parks and other public spots.
