Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has decided to plant Miyawaki forests around the city to combat climate change and the city’s growing pollution problem, press sources reported. Previously a pilot project was conducted in Rialto Park to check increasing pollution.

The commissioner of Rawalpindi Gulzar Hussain Shah visited the Rialto Park Miyawaki forest along with RDA chairman Tariq Mahmood Murtaza’s and appreciated his efforts to combat heat island effects during the peak summer season. The commissioner further offered his support for the project, in response to which Chairman Murtaza thanked the commissioner. Moreover, the chairman expressed his resolve to complete the plantation project on a priority basis.

Furthermore, the RDA Chairman announced that the project will be expanded to other areas of the city in a stepwise method. Last year in August 2020, RDA had planted the district’s first Miyawaki forest of 6000 plants in Rialto Park, Murree road.
