The PKR 7 billion project would build a 15-kilometre-long artery to reduce travel time from Kharak Stop to Qainchi, which now takes 45 minutes. The suggested proposal by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) will reduce travel time to 15 minutes. Furthermore, the ecosystem in the neighbouring areas will be enhanced.
Various interventions, such as flyovers, underpasses, pedestrian bridges, protected U-turns, pedestrian walkways, and elevated pathways for motorcyclists, will be built as part of this project. Furthermore, the government may be able to reclaim the service road from encroachers.
The Maulana Shaukat Ali Road begins at Kharak Stop at the Sabzazar Orange Line station and continues to Allama Iqbal Town at the Karim Block signal, passing through Wahdat Road and then Canal Road. The road continues toward Jinnah Hospital before connecting to Ferozepur Road through Shauq Chowk, Akbar Chowk, Model Town Link intersection, Pindi Stop, and Kot Lakhpat.
Furthermore, the road links Allama Iqbal Town, BOR Society, Green Town, Faisal Town, Punjab University, and other areas to Ferozepur Road. LDA Chief Engineer Mazhar Hussain Asif stated that these areas have a lot of traffic, which causes vehicles to be stuck in traffic jams for hours.
