Lahore: Punjab Local Government and Community Minister Ibraheem Murad informed about the progress made on the preparation of masterplans of 11 big districts of Punjab, a news source reported on March 31.

As per the details, the land use classification maps for the 11 districts have been prepared and sent to the deputy commissioners for approval. The 11 districts include:
- Gujranwala
- Sahiwal
- Rawalpindi
- Sialkot
- Khanewal
- Okara
- Vehari
- Bahawalpur
- Muzaffargarh
- Rahim Yar Khan
- Dera Ghazi Khan

During the meeting, the minister highlighted that agricultural land should be safeguarded and the area under cultivation must be protected to meet the food requirements of the province. Murad further stated that green areas must be earmarked in the masterplans and new housing projects should not be allowed in these areas.
The minister directed relevant authorities to take strict action against unauthorised housing schemes. He also issued directives for the establishment of economic corridors in these districts to promote business and commercial activities.
