Karachi: The Sindh government is devising a policy under which it plans to give the committee, which has been tasked with the preparation of the master plans of various cities, the status of a separate body; free from the control of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) – a news source reported.

A meeting to this effect took place on Monday, which was presided over by Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani. Provincial Transport Minister Syed Owais Shah, Adviser to the Chief Minister on Law Murtaza Wahab, Secretary Local Government Syed Khalid Haider Shah, and other officials concerned were all present at the occasion.
Architect Yasmin Lari informed that the authorities concerned recently completed a survey of 1,600 heritage sites in the province.
At present, the Heritage Foundation is carrying out repair and maintenance work on these structures. She said that the said sites would be included under the jurisdiction of the proposed master plan authority.

The officials concerned will reportedly present a draft of the legislation before a cabinet committee comprising provincial ministers and technocrats within a month for review.
