Peshawar: The Auqaf Department has asked shopkeepers to vacate shops around Masjid Mahabat Khan, according to a news report. A much needed conservation and preservation work needs to begin on the historical 17th century mosque for which the shops surrounding it need to be vacated.
The Directorate of Archaeology and Museums will work on the conservation project and restore the mosque to its original shape. The shopkeepers are asked to vacate the shops leased under Waqf Property Act 1960 within 30 days of the notice. If the shops are not vacated, the shopkeepers will be evicted according to a notification by the Auqaf Department.
