Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday stated that the second phase of the Naya Pakistan Manzalain Aasan Programme would commence in January 2020, a news source reported. The programme is expected to continue for five years with two phases of rural road carpeting to be completed each year, he added.

Buzdar told the press that the provincial government would spend PKR 15 billion on the first phase of this project to repair 1,236 kilometres of road in rural areas. This phase will be completed by the end of this year.

He said that the government believed this was an important project because it would facilitate easy communication with rural areas as well as promote economic activities and trade. People living in rural areas will be able to access better facilities such as more advance healthcare institutions, schools and colleges. The project will also allow farmers to transport their produce to markets in a convenient manner.
