Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has cleared the Mall Road sinkhole which appeared during the record-breaking downpour the city received on Tuesday, according to a news report. The LDA Director General Amna Imran Khan told sources that a cavity measuring 15mx6m appeared on the road because of a number of open ducts located in a chamber near the General Post Office (GPO) became a carrier of water seepage under the road.
The LDA officials have said that a record 252 mm rain fell in Lahore on Tuesday but immediate damage control measures were taken to cover the embankment with cement. The road has been opened for traffic after filling has been completed, however, asphalt work will only be done after the monsoon season is over.
