Karachi: A Malaysia-based firm has expressed its interest to invest USD 100 million in the mining and gemstones sectors of Pakistan, according to a news source. As per officials, the company is expected to make initial investments in the project by April 2020.

According to reports, the firm has requested the Pakistani government to set up lapidary units in Islamabad and invest USD 100 million in mining gemstones from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The construction of setting up the lapidary unit were to begin this month, however, work is still pending on pursuing with project’s phase I.

Further, the land for setting up the unit has not been procured as of yet. The unit will be used for carving, cutting, polishing and disinfecting gemstones ahead of their planned export.
