Karachi: The Pakistan Business Council (PBC) has started the campaign for ‘Make in Pakistan’ to improve the economy, according to a news report. The PCB is an advocacy group which has urged the Finance Minister to extend his support to the initiative.
The PBC CEO Ehsan Malik said that the campaign would help create jobs, promote value-added exports and encourage import substitution, which would put the economy on the right track. Malik said that the anti-manufacturing and pro-import bias has made Pakistan a nation heavily reliant on imports.
The council further asked the Finance Minister to include regional competitive energy tariffs for the industry to be able to produce jobs and surpluses for exports. He also added that in order to discourage tax evaders, withholding tax for non-filers should be increased by twice as compared to non-filers. The PBC also recommended that the government should focus on export-generating industries and enhancing the capacity of technology-oriented sectors so that the private sector growth can be facilitated.
