Islamabad: The Sukkur-Multan (M-5) Motorway project will get its dedicated controlled intelligent transportation system (ITS) installed by August 5, a news source reported.

The National Highway Authority (NHA) had earlier initiated construction work on the six-lane, 31.25-metre wide, and 392-kilometre long motorway on August 5, 2016.
This infrastructural project, which aims to reduce the travelling distance between Multan and Sukkur, is being developed on a joint-venture basis between the Punjab government and the Exim Bank of China.

As per reports, the motorway would easily be able to cater to vehicle traffic speeds of 120 kilometres per hour. It will comprise 11 interchanges and eight large, as well as 30 smaller crossings. It will also have 22 toll plazas and 12 service areas.
Previously, Commissioner Sukkur Division Rafique Ahmed had directed the deputy commissioner concerned to conduct a survey of the land acquired for M-5 project in a bid to remove disparities.

He said that the authorities concerned had received complaints regarding the inaccurate results of a land survey; pertaining to an area which the government had procured from locals for the motorway project.
