Lahore: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) and Prime West Energy Company — a Thai firm — signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the waste-to-energy project, a news source reported on January 8.

A delegation of Prime West Energy Company held a meeting with the LWMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ali Anan Qamar. The CEO stated that the Thai firm had a detailed discussion regarding the project after which the agreement was signed. As per the news source, several countries have shown keen interest in the Waste-to-Energy projects of LWMC. After China, Norway, and Germany, Thailand also showed interest in the said project.

Currently, Prime Waste Energy Company is operating waste-to-energy projects in Cambodia, Japan, Taiwan, and Thailand. Prime West Energy is seeking a direct investment of USD 225 million. According to the details, the Thai firm has expressed interest in setting up a 50-megawatt plant in Lahore; under the agreement, the LWMC will provide 2,500 tons of waste per day for this plant.
