Lahore: The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has submitted a proposal for a new solid waste management system for review, a news source reported. As per the publication, the proposal was shared in a meeting presided over by Advisor To Punjab Chief Minister on Economic and Planning Affairs Dr. Salman Shah.

The meeting members comprised of Provincial Minister for Industries Mian Aslam Iqbal, Lahore Commissioner Saif Anjum, LWMC Chairman Riaz Hameed and other related officials. Seeing the proposal, Dr. Shah said that it could be improved further and that it would be reviewed to determine the appropriate changes it required.
The proposal aims to introduce an improved solid waste management system in Lahore. In this regard, Dr. Shah said that the new proposed system had to be developed according to international standards.

In a related development, the LWMC staff has been busy clearing the waste backlog in various areas of the city — with the situation having been mishandled over the past few months. As per the statement issued by LWMC Managing Director Rao Imtiaz Ahmed on February 20, the company’s staff had previously removed over 5,800 tons of waste; however, the cleanliness operation was expected to continue for the foreseeable future as the situation still remained unresolved.
