Lahore: The Lahore Waste Management Corporation (LWMC) has started a drive to transform the provincial capital into a dust-free environment by washing the roads and taking substantial steps to combat air pollution, as per the news published in the national dailies on December 12.

According to details disclosed by the LWMC, a total of 79 selected roads underwent continuous washing and sweeping activities. The cleaning operation was supervised by District Commissioner (DC) Lahore Rafia Haider, and LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din, who personally inspected the progress at locations such as Shimla Pahari and Club Chowk.
The LWMC’s operational teams, working in two shifts, successfully completed the washing of over 200 kilometres of roads, accompanied by mechanical sweeping that covered a distance of more than 900 kilometres. The specialized cleaning activities involved the deployment of a fleet consisting of 18 mechanical washers, 12 mechanical sweepers, and 40 tractor sweepers.

As outlined by the LWMC, the city is currently undergoing extensive cleaning efforts, encompassing special washing on key roads and continuous mechanical sweeping. The recent night’s washing covered areas from MAO College, the Secretariat, Karbala Gamay Shah, and Data Darbar to Ravi Bridge. Mechanical sweeping targeted various locations, including Pine Avenue, Abdul Sattar Edhi Road, Thokar Chowk, Egerton Road, Lytton Road, Canal Road, Mall Road, Nazria-e-Pakistan Road, Wahdat Road, and Zahoor Elahi Road. Mechanical sweeping continued throughout the night at Khayaban-e-Jinnah, Khayaban-e-Firdousi, Main Boulevard, Johar Town, Samanabad Underpass, and Raiwind Road. Additional mechanical sweeping operations were completed at Muslim Town Flyover, Siddique Trade Center Flyover, Maulana Shaukat Ali Flyover, Lahore Bridge, and Shahdara Flyover.
