Islamabad: Lufthansa Airline, the German flag carrier, is returning to Pakistan for commercial and freight flights after a 13-year absence, news sources reported.

In this respect, a high-level delegation of German businesspeople and Lufthansa representatives met with the Secretary Board of Investment (BOI) Fareena Mazhar. The representative expressed their intention to return to the country with passenger and commercial freight aviation services.
Secretary Fareena stated that a meeting between the business delegation and Minister of Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan will be scheduled shortly to further explore the possibilities of the proposals. The secretary briefed the delegation on Pakistan’s ongoing business-friendly policies and the incentives available to international corporations looking to invest in Pakistan. The guests were also briefed about the 22 Special Economic Zones (SEZs) developed as part of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), which are specialised for the country’s industrialization.

The delegation, comprised of 16 German multinational company executives, expressed a desire in investing in Pakistan’s dairy industry, communication, automotive and service industries, and power infrastructure sector. The current development came as a result of the meeting between Secretary Fareena and German Ambassador H.E Bernhard Stephan Schlagheck in a meeting held on September 8, 2021.
