Lahore: The Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA) has approved the launch of two low-cost housing schemes in Rawalpindi and one in Sheikhupura, news sources reported on November 25.

As per the details, the two housing projects in Rawalpindi are Green Woods Housing Scheme (Forest Town) and Tariq Sharif Housing Scheme Smart City. The low-cost housing project in Sheikhurpura is names Minar City Housing Scheme.
Sources report that the decision to launch these projects was finalised during the 90th meeting of the PHATA governing body, chaired by the senior provincial minister, Main Aslam Iqbal. The minister said that the government is ready to amend laws to create an effective mechanism in collaboration with developers to facilitate the provision of roofs to low-income families.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the housing loan structure and directed the relevant authorities to ensure green areas in all new housing projects, with 20% land designated for the construction of low-cost housing units under the Naya Pakistan Housing Project (NPHP) initiative.
It is important to mention that the government of Punjab has merged the NPHP (under PHATA) with the provinces for low-cost housing for the masses. In this regard, PHATA has launched 172 housing projects across Punjab, says the report.
