Quetta: Following a sharp rise in coronavirus cases, Balochistan has decided to extend its lockdown for another 14 days – a news source reported. Balochistan’s government had previously extended its lockdown till May 5 and a decision was to be made on the matter today, resulting in an extension till May 19.

The decision was announced by the Provincial Government Spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani. Balochistan had experienced a sudden rise in cases on Monday, when the provincial authorities confirmed 103 new cases, taking the provincial tally to 1,321.
Of the new cases detected, 92 are from Quetta, 4 from Lasbela, 3 from Sibi, 2 from Chaghi, 1 from Noshki, and 1 from Qilla Abdullah.

Shahwani said in the tweet that since the only medicine and solution known so far is social distancing and isolation, the lockdown has to be extended. Consequently, the lockdown in Balochistan has been extended till May 19, after which the authorities will review the situation.
