Muzaffargarh: Residents unanimously rejected Member of Provincial Assembly Syed Haroon Sultan Bukhari’s proposal to forfeit their land at high rates for the construction of a coal-run power plant in the area.
According to a news source, the meeting was held at the Government Higher Secondary School in Budh with residents of Mouza Budh, Wairer Sipra, and Mahmood Kot in attendance. During the meeting, provincial minister Bukhari offered PKR 5,000,000 per acre and additional benefits to the occupants, but to no avail.
Locals rejected the offer and asked the minster to build the power plant elsewhere. Budh Union Council Chairman Rana Akhtar Hussain Noon suggested the power plant project be shifted to Rakh Khan Pur. He said the area had 6,000 acres of vacant land, a railway track, and canal water.
Another attendant pointed out that four power plants were already operational in the area, which made a fifth one pointless.
