Islamabad: The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has decided to request the parliament to pass the rent control act — a news source reported. The decision was taking in a meeting held on Wednesday. As per the publication, the meeting in question featured a sizable number of local traders, and was chaired by ICCI Acting President Tahir Abbasi.

Speaking on the occasion, Abbasi said that the traders had been demanding a balanced rent control act for the last 30 years in Islamabad. This act has to do with ensuring that both tenants and owners have equal rights, which are protected by the state.

He further revealed that the Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar had earlier presented an amended bill for the rent control law in the national assembly, which had later been passed by the relevant standing committee as well. The ICCI president now felt that it was time for the law to be sanctioned by the parliament, in order to meet the long overdue demands of the local traders.
