Multan: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mudassir Riaz Malik is planning to grant special powers to waste management companies, according to a news report. Under the powers, people littering roads and streets can be fined and their properties can be sealed.
He said that the powers will granted to sanitary workers with the approval of board of directors, under local government ordinance. Meanwhile, private housing schemes, hospitals and commercial/industrial units will be charged for garbage collection and disposal.
The DC was speaking at a high-level meeting of the Multan Waste Management Company (MWMC). The meeting was also attended by MWMC Managing Director (MD) Iqbal Fareed, Manager Operations Daud Makki and other relevant officials.
He said that MWMC will soon establish a medical waste disposal plant and waste management system in the city will be improved.
MWMC MD, briefing on the occasion, said that the situation of cleaning and garbage disposal around the city is being reviewed so appropriate steps could be taken to improve it.
