Islamabad: The federal government is considering various proposals for empowering line ministries in a bid to ease the workload of the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) and the Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC), a news source reported.

A meeting to this effect took place between Planning Minister Khusro Bakhtiar and Adviser for Institutional Reforms and Austerity Ishrat Hussain in Islamabad on Thursday.
The planning minister said that there was a need to further streamline the process of approving projects. For this purpose, the government will delegate more powers to the line ministries concerned.
The purpose is to enhance the project sanctioning capacity of these ministries. The federal government wants CDWP and ECNEC to consider only mega projects in a bid to save time and reduce burden.

According to the planning minister, the Planning Commission will be responsible for monitoring and evaluating development projects. He said that the government is committed to restructuring the public sector.
