Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday (February 14) extended the stay on Lahore Master Plan 2050’s implementation for another two weeks, according to the news sources.

The court also ordered the city administration to engage an international or local consultant to re-examine the said master plan. During the hearing of a petition filed by a citizen challenging Lahore Master Plan 2050, the court observed that the plan will become functional till 2050 and would affect the citizens. The LHC judge also regretted the rapid development of housing schemes on farmlands, which caused losses to our agriculture-based economy.

The court hearing was further adjourned for two weeks and the implementation of the master plan was halted. As per the sources, the petition stated that the cutting down of thousands of trees (as proposed in the master plan) will do catastrophic damage to the environment and that acres of farmland have been converted into urban areas without any justification.
