Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has instructed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Director to submit a report on commercial activities being carried out in residential areas the next week, reported a news source. The case case against commercial activities in Gulberg and other residential areas was being heard by LHC Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi, who expressed his displeasure regarding these activities.
LDA Director General Amna Imran Khan presented a report on commercialisation before the court, on which the court expressed dissatisfaction, stating that due to polices of LDA, the residential essence of many areas in the city have been destroyed. The residents of these areas chose to stay quiet about the matter as market value of their assets go up due to the rise in commercial importance of the neighbourhood.
LDA DG told the court that illegal commercial activities are also being carried out in many houses, against which the authority is taking actions. Commenting on it, Justice Qureshi said property in DHA has strong market value because the authority doesn’t allow commercial activity in the residential areas.
