Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued directives for the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) to restrict the use of polythene bags at tuck shops and hotels located alongside the motorways, according to a news source published on September 25.

Previously, a citizen had petitioned the court regarding various environmental issues. The petitioner’s counsel Abuzar Salman Niazi stated that the use of polythene bags had been banned in the entire province of Punjab; however, several restaurants and tuck shops at the motorways were found violating the ban.

He also raised issues of conservation of clean water and industrial emissions.
In response, the judge directed the EPA to ensure strict enforcement of the ban in all restaurants, malls, and outlets working on the motorways and present a compliance report within a week.
