Lahore: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Wednesday (February 09) directed all print and digital media outlets to display No Objection Certificates (NOCs) and Quick Response (QR) codes as part of advertisements for private housing schemes, news sources reported. The court stated that the decision is taken to avoid fraudulent and unlawful housing societies from scamming citizens out of their hard-earned money in the guise of investment.

The directive requires housing schemes to display QR codes to obtain rapid data and means to authenticate the scheme from the database. Furthermore, the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) informed the court of continuing legal proceedings against 14 unlawful housing schemes on fraud charges. It was also mentioned that the Punjab government has already created a centralised online verification website to check the legitimacy of the schemes.

It is worth mentioning that the provincial government has established a commission to regulate the unlawful scheme and prohibit the conversion of green land into housing developments.
