During a hearing on the petition for smog and pollution prevention, the LHC stated that the authority should concentrate on removing encroachments from nine major roads that are causing the city’s deteriorating Air Quality Index (AQI) and the resulting smog. The court also ordered the authority to demolish illegally constructed structures and businesses along roadsides and to promote roof gardening in multistorey buildings.
On the occasion, LDA Director General (DG) Amir Ali Ahmad told the court that the authority is taking initiatives to enhance the city’s environment, including improving the major boulevards in Allama Iqbal Town and Johar Town. In addition, he promised to plant five trees for each lost due to construction.
