Lahore: Lahore High Court (LHC) has declared that the practice of generating electricity on commercial gas connections is illegal – a news source reported on December 18. At the same time, the court dismissed the application of a number of industrial units which had petitioned the court on the matter.

According to the details, the lawyers for the industrial units had contended that the court had allowed generation of electricity on gas connections in Bulleh Shah Packaging cases. Meanwhile, the lawyer for Sui Northern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) argued that the impression was based on a misinterpretation of the court’s judgement in the Bulleh Shah Packaging case.

The court dismissed the petitions with a decision in favour of SNGPL’s stance. LHC also heard the case regarding use of polythene bags despite its orders banning them in a number of cities of Punjab.
