Ghalanai: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Mahmood Khan recently announced the provincial government’s decision to introduce the local government system in the merged tribal districts — a news source reported. As per the publication, despite the introduction of a new system, the traditional Jirga system will remain intact to provide quick resolutions to problems faced by local residents.

The CM stated that the local government system would help improve the lives of the regions’ people and would work to provide them with better facilities. He further said that the tribal districts were rich in precious mineral resources, which is why the government was working diligently to utilise them for the region’s development. He added that the minerals belonged to the people of the merged tribal districts and that they had a right to use them for their own prosperity.
CM Khan also took the opportunity to reveal that the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) had been instructed to hire locals to the non-technical positions required for the development of the Mohmand Dam project.

He further announced that along with the Mohmand dam project, other development schemes were also being launched in the area — at an estimated cost of PKR 4 billion.
