Gujranwala: The Local Government (LG) Chief Officer has sought the details of unapproved housing projects operating in the city, a news source reported. The official took this decision following the establishment of a committee by the Punjab government – tasked with formulating a policy for the regularisation of illegal housing schemes in the province.

As per officials, the details of unauthorised gated communities in the city would help the LG form a strategy on regularising them. As announced earlier this week, the committee formed by the provincial government comprises LG members from all 36 division of Punjab, as well as officials representing the respective development authorities from major cities.

Reportedly, the committee members have asked the relevant officials in writing to share details on all existing unapproved and illegal housing schemes in Gujranwala and all divisions that fall within the city’s jurisdiction.
The details sought by the committee members are as follows:
- Names of societies
- Total area of each society
- Approval status
- Area of land documented
- Available facilities
- Access to utility services

Further, the officials concerned have received similar notices from the LG Department. As per details, they will only share data with the committee; which will make the final decision on regularising illegal housing schemes in the province.
