Lahore: Chief Executive Officer of the Lahore Electric Supply Company (Lesco), Engineer Ramzan Butt, has announced that a new initiative titled ‘Apna Meter, Apni Reading’ will soon be launched, allowing consumers to submit their own electricity meter readings through a dedicated online platform.
Speaking at a session hosted by the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI), the Lesco chief said the new system is part of the company’s broader effort to enhance transparency and improve service delivery. Consumers will be given a link through which they can enter their meter readings directly, minimizing discrepancies and increasing trust in the billing process.

Engineer Butt emphasized that the health of the power sector is directly linked to the country’s economic survival. “If the power sector runs efficiently, other problems will also begin to resolve,” he said.
To boost reliability, he also announced the formation of a Rapid Response Force that will promptly restore electricity in case of weather-related or technical outages. Addressing concerns over inflated bills, he categorically denied any overbilling or over-reading practices and said that Lesco is actively working to resolve issues related to meter replacement and new connections.
“Our staff are public servants, and their foremost responsibility is to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the people,” he stated, adding that Lesco currently faces no shortage of material or equipment.
On industrial performance, he assured business leaders that instructions had been issued to prevent tripping on industrial feeders. In response to questions about first information reports (FIRs) against consumers, he said Lesco is making sure no undue actions are taken and attributed some technical issues to lack of awareness among consumers.

LCCI President Mian Abuzar Shad raised serious concerns about new regulations by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), under which commercial and industrial users must pay 50% of their sanctioned load regardless of actual consumption. He said the regulation is significantly increasing operational costs for businesses and urged Lesco to escalate the matter to the federal level.
The chamber also welcomed the launch of the Lesco mobile app and requested that its key features be widely shared with members to improve accessibility and service response times.
The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to strengthen coordination between Lesco and the business community to ensure reliable and affordable power supply.
