Lahore: Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has severed electricity connections for Sharifpura village on account of a massive power theft, reported a news source. Located on GT Road, all except for eight houses in Sharifpura were found stealing electricity from low-tension lines.

A special LESCO team was formed for carrying out the operation. The power supply to these houses was terminated from the company’s sub-divisional office on GT Road. The charges pressed against the owners were concerned with non-payment of electricity bills.

During this operation, the LESCO team also removed two transformers installed in the village. Furthermore, an application for FIR registration against the culprits has also been submitted in the police station concerned.

Similar drives against power theft are being carried out in other cities of Punjab. For this purpose, the power supply companies concerned have formed special teams to check instances of corruption. MEPCO has been one-step ahead of its counterparts in this fight against electricity theft; it will auction the properties of defaulters.
