Rawalpindi: The foundation stone to mark the commencement of the Leh Expressway project’s construction work is expected to be laid in July or August, a news source reported. A ceremony in this regard will be hosted in Liaquat Bagh, where Prime Minister Imran Khan will perform the inauguration.

Funds for the PKR 79 billion project will be allocated in the budget announcement for FY2020-21. According to reports, the PC-1, feasibility study and project design for the Leh Expressway project will be completed by July 15. The federal government is now looking to get private partners on board for executing the project.

The 30-kilometre long Leh Expressway project is expected to be completed in two years. It will run along Nullah Leh and will feature 12.5ft wide road on both side of the drain, nine flyovers, three underpasses and two interchanges.
Moreover, due to the expected rise in the development cost (owing to numerous delays that had previously impeded the project’s completion), the project management has decided to drop the idea of laying mono-train track along the Leh Expressway.

Meanwhile, the project management has placed a complete ban on setting up illegal constructions along the road route. This is in addition to the ban in place to carry out any construction activity.
