Rawalpindi: The contract for conducting a feasibility study for the construction of the Leh Expressway will be awarded on October 14, a news source reported. The financial bids submitted by the three firms that prequalified for the contract will be opened the same day.

As announced earlier, the Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) will award the contract for the development of the project in the first week of November, 2019. For conducting the feasibility study, the RDA has allocated funds worth PKR 25 million.

Reportedly, the timeframe set for the completion of the feasibility study and preparation of the detailed project-design assessment plan is five months. Sources also revealed that the RDA (the project’s executive authority) will acquire the land for the project as soon as the feasibility study report is submitted.

The Leh Expressway project was proposed 12 years ago but has faced several lapses in the past due to various reasons. It is meant to help save Islamabad and Rawalpindi from monsoon floods that cause loss of life and assets each year.
