Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has termed construction of Leh Expressway indispensable for controlling pollution, keeping water clean, and dealing with traffic issues in the city, a news source reported. The information was shared in the form of a presentation given by the development authority on Lai Expressway project.
Leh Expressway will connect Soan Adda with Kataria and IJP Road. It is proposed to be 36 feet wide including a 12-foot wide service lane. It was also revealed that construction of the project back in 2007 when it was proposed was PKR 17 billion, while this has now escalated to PKR 50 billion.
The road will have 36 and 72 inch wide sewerage pipes on both sides and a water bed in the middle, which will collect rainwater. The project will be completed in 10 packages, and it will have 14 flyovers, three underpasses, while a wide and covered sewerage trunk will also be part of the project.
The sewerage trunk will be connected with Soan River, where water will be treated before it is used for irrigation.
