Islamabad: The federal cabinet has decided to ask for the law ministry’s legal opinion on amnesty scheme, a news source reported. For this purpose, the amnesty scheme will be referred to the ministry to determine whether the government should launch it through presidential ordinance or as a money bill.

The amnesty scheme is aimed at the legalisation of undisclosed assets and income. Federal Minister of Information Fawad Chaudhry stated that several officials have already worked on the feasibility of the amnesty scheme. These include Finance Minister Asad Umer, Law Minister Farogh Naseem, State Minister for Revenue Hammad Azhar, Advisor to PM on Commerce, Textile, Production & Investment Abdul Razak Dawood, and Privatisation Minister Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar.

Chaudhry added that the finance minister has reached the United States. He said that he is there to hold talks with the officials of International Monetary Fund (IMF) regarding the bailout package. He will also be discussing the asset declaration scheme, the information minister added.
