Karachi: Sindh Minister for Industries and Commerce and Cooperative Department Jam Ikramullah Dharejo has announced the provincial government’s decision to take legal action against factories found polluting the Keenjhar Lake, a news source reported.

Dharejo stated that the provincial government would take all possible measures to rehabilitate the lake. Following his orders, Sindh Secretary Industries visited the site to confirm news reports of alleged disposal of toxic materials and chemicals from nearby factories.
The minister stated that if the factories were found disposing the toxic waste into the lake, and not using a treatment plant, then the government would take the relevant legal action against the factory owners.

Dharejo added that he received information that treatment plants were installed in Nooriabad and KB Feeder Kotri for clearing the water. Stating that the lake was situated about 35 kilometres away from Nooriabad, the minister said that it was a beautiful location, and its preservation and safety was among the provincial government’s top priorities.
