Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has announced its decision to develop 10,000 residential apartments under the Naya Pakistan Housing Programme (NPHP), a news source reported. As per the publication, the civic agency aims to build these units for its employees, as well as for the officials of the Traffic Engineering and Transport Planning Agency (TEPA) and the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA).

LDA Additional Director General Urban Planning Rana Tikka Khan on Monday chaired a meeting of the steering committee and underlined that the authorities concerned had identified land for the construction of 9,000 apartments. The civic agency is close to finishing the mandatory planning for development work on an area of 2,000 kanals in LDA City, he added.

The meeting was informed that the LDA would construct 10,000 apartments – which would be available in three different sizes – over the next two years. Besides, the authority is expected to contract the services international construction companies for the project.

LDA Director General (DG) Sumair Ahmed Syed told the meeting that the authority would launch an online system for construction approvals and building plans as per the World Bank (WB) guidelines. The authority is trying to render the approval procedure simple for quick resolution of applications, he added.

Syed further stated that LDA had decided to systematise the delivery of fee challan forms for the issuance of completion certificates and building plans and contract out inspections to private companies. LDA has also planned to construct a separate office for its one window cell to provide services within one building, he added.
