The LDA has decided to appoint a consultant to set up these vehicle-free zones in the city. For this purpose, the LDA shared a publication in national dailies last week inviting expression of interest for pre-qualification of a consultancy firm. The companies that have a good reputation and meet the pre-qualification criteria can send their requests to LDA Director General latest by November 1, 2019. The LDA is already working on plan to make Gulberg a central business district.

The vehicle-free zones are essentially designed to benefit pedestrians, with no cars, bikes or vehicles of any sort allowed to enter these areas. Designated parking areas outside the zones will be used to park vehicles. The decision has been taken to facilitate shoppers and to enrich the neighbourhood. The consultancy firm that will pre-qualify for the project will work on planning and preparing the project design.
