Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) Chief Engineer Habib-ul-Haq Randhawa has revealed that the tender inviting bids for construction of Shahkam Chowk Flyover, Canal Road will be floated in July, according to a news source.

The Punjab Planning and Development Board has approved the project with the construction funds will be allocated in the Fiscal Year 2020-21, under the Annual Development Programme. The authority is currently working on finalising details on the financial funding required for the projects.

The flyover construction is estimated to cost over PKR 2 billion, while Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Sardar Usman Buzdar had already approved its development, and subsequent PC-I has already been prepared. The LDA previously proposed to develop the project under the private-public (PPP) partnership mode but the government has now decided otherwise.

The construction of Shahkam Chowk Flyover will reduce traffic load on Defence Road, Multan Road and at the entry and exit point of Bahria Town on Canal Bank Road, sources claim and say that the National Engineering Services of Pakistan (NESPAK) has also prepared the project design that highlights the flyover to be a 3-lane dual carriageway.
For the project development, the LDA will acquire 25 kanals of land at a cost of PKR 450 million.
