Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has prepared a project plan for the development of a low-cost apartment project spread over 100 kanals, a news source reported. To keep its construction cost under control, the LDA has communicated its requirement for the introduction of some modifications to the building bylaws – for which a summary has been moved to the Cabinet Division for approval.

The LDA’s existing bylaws make it mandatory for developers to limit their project street widths to a minimum of 40 feet. For the low-cost apartment initiative mentioned, however, the LDA wants this sizing requirement to be reduced to 20 feet instead. Sources within the authority have revealed that once the cabinet approves the proposed changes, they will be made part of the bylaws framework.

Reportedly, the broader reason behind this shift has to do with incentivizing developers to attend to the country’s housing shortfall through their offering of low-cost housing projects.
LDA’s low-cost apartment project will feature 3-marla housing units; with the apartment building set to have a 40-ft-wide front and a total height of 60 feet. Subject to approval, the lanes in the project will be 20 feet wide.
