Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has opened the Shahkam Chowk Flyover to assist motorists over the holiday, news sources reported on July 10. The two-lane flyover project, worth PKR 4.233 billion, connects New Defence Road, Kahna/Ferozepur Road, and Multan Road at Mohlanwal, as well as many housing developments, villages, and minor settlements.

Reportedly, the flyover has been opened to ease traffic flow during the Eid holidays. However, the finishing work of the project will continue 30 days after the opening of the flyover. This also includes moving electrical poles, beautification, and traffic line markings on the flyover.
At a press conference, LDA Chief Engineer (II) Mazhar Hussain Khan stated that the project was completed on schedule, which is a huge relief for inhabitants of Multan Road, Defence Road, and Bahria Town. He also stated that, in addition to improving traffic flow, the initiative will help improve the area’s environmental condition. In addition, he briefed the media on the PKR 4.3 billion Saggian Road Rehabilitation Project and the PKR 5 billion Sheranwala Gate Project.

He added that both the projects are on schedule and would be completed within the next three to four months, subject to the settlement of any land acquisition concerns. He stated that the LDA has completed all outstanding initiatives targeted at enhancing the city’s traffic flow. It is vital to note that the government has set aside a significant sum for different road infrastructure improvements in the city, particularly at entry and exit points.
