Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) intends to launch a new amnesty scheme for the regularisation of irregular commercial buildings through National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), according to a news published on June 1.

Reportedly, the scheme is primarily intended to address the growing issue of encroachment. Under the initiative, the services of a consultant have been engaged to survey commercial use of 18 frozen roads that were declared so to counteract issues created by increasing population, sewerage problems and traffic issues.

These frozen zones include Khayaban-e-Jinnah, Khayaban-e-Firdousi, an alternate route to Raiwind, Defence Road, and the stretch between Faisal Town to Akbar Chowk. According to the sources, the short-term consultancy work has been awarded to National Engineering Services Pakistan (NESPAK) for PKR 2.9 million. The consultancy firm will be responsible for surveys of the constructed buildings, sewerage system capacity, annual commercial potential and traffic count.
