Lahore: The Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has sealed 87 buildings across the city in a crackdown against the non-payment of commercialisation fees — a news source reported on September 7.

The authority conducted the said operation in Shadman, Shah Jamal, Jail Road, New Muslim Town, New Garden Town, Faisal Town, Gulberg, Quaid-e-Azam Town, Allama Iqbal Town, and Controlled Area – Multan Road.
An LDA official revealed that notices had previously been sent to the owners of the identified buildings to cease all commercial activities and to pay the commercialization fees by the communicated due date. However, due to the non-compliance of selected property owners, the authority had to proceed with its operation against the buildings that had failed to pay the requisite fees.

Reportedly, the identified defaulters collectively owe the LDA a total of PKR 400 million, which is now expected to be utilised on infrastructural developments in the city.
It was further revealed that the LDA also demolished 8 buildings and sealed another 4 for various violations of the authority’ regulations.
