Lahore: Lahore Development Authority (LDA) has decided to obtain the help of Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to ensure the structural stability of high-rise buildings in the provincial capital, according to a news report. PEC will also review the existing by-laws for high-rise buildings for similar purposes.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be signed between both the agencies soon. The matter was decided in a meeting between LDA Director General Amna Imran Khan and PEC Chairman Javed Salim Qureshi on Wednesday.
It was agreed in the meeting that PEC will review existing bylaws and help introduce new regulations for high-rise buildings. The meeting also underlined the need to enhance safety standards according to the number of storeys in any building. It was also agreed that space reserved for parking needs to be increased.
The meeting was also informed that LDA would soon launch e-permit system for map approvals.
